"See Me" First 5 San Francisco Family Festival for Young Children
"See Me" First 5 San Francisco Family Festival for Young Children will be on Sunday, May 4, 2008 from 11 AM to 3 PM at Civic Center Plaza on Polk Street (between McAllister and Grove). There will be stage performances all day including Puppet Shows, Clowns, and more! Children will be able to take home science projects, hold live animals, have arts and crafts, jumpers, hear stories, and participate in interactive health based activities. 2008 High School Graduation Event
Mayor Gavin Newsom and the San Francisco Housing Authority are calling all San Francisco Housing Authority public housing high school students to participate in the Third Annual Graduation Ceremony. Come join in the celebration of your success!!! All you need is to be a resident of SFHA public housing and provide proof of graduation (HS diploma, transcripts, or verification from school). Submit or mail your documents to the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services at City Hall Room 160, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlet Place, San Francisco, CA 94102. Brown Bombers 2008 Sign Ups
Be a part of a nationally ranked football, cheer and dance team! Children between the ages of 7-15 years old are eligible to participate. The cost is $160 for registration, with additional cost for a personal items and uniform deposit fee. At the time of sign up, participants will need to provide a copy of their birth certificate, copy of medical insurance card, completed and signed registration forms, copy of the last school report card, and proof of having taken a physical exam after January 1, 2008. The season starts on August 1, 2008 and practices are held at Youngblood Coleman Park (on the corner of Mendell and Galvez Street). PHA Plan Public Hearing on May 28, 2008
The San Francisco Housing Authority cordially invites public housing residents to a public hearing at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at the West Bay Conference Center located at 1290 Fillmore Street (cross street: Eddy Street). The Housing Authority will listen to your concerns and give you an update about the PHA Plan process as it relates to safety and security, the prioritization of capital improvements, admissions policies and other important information.
Parking is very limited in the area. You are encouraged to use public transportation. S.F. Municipal Railway lines that stop near the West Bay Conference Center are: 5 Fulton, 22 Fillmore, 31 Balboa, and 38 Geary.
Services Connection Pilot Project
Services Connection Pilot Project is going strong at the senior & disabled developments of Rosa Parks and Clementina. The San Francisco Housing Authority, Department of Aging and Adult Services, and other community agencies bring services and information to the Rosa Parks and Clementina residents twice a month. Service Connection Teams will be at Rosa Parks on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 1-4 PM and at Clementina Towers on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month from 1-4 PM. If you are a resident of Rosa Parks or Clementina and you have questions about the Services Connection Pilot Project, or would like to volunteer as a Resident Ambassador for this project, please call Marie Swanson at 415-345-0130.

Youth Commissioners
The San Francisco Youth Commission seeks Youth Commissioners for its 2008-2009 term. Applicants must be between the ages of 12 and 23, passionate about youth issues, highly involved and accountable, a resident of San Francisco, know the issues that impact his or her communities, and be available at least 2 hours a week. They will have direct access to the Mayor, Board of Supervisors, and other key leaders in SF to make systematic change. Youth are eligible for health benefits. Construction to Begin After Award of Contract:
- Rosa Parks Sewer repair/replacement, Estimated cost: $170,000. Rebidding from 4/21 to 5/16/2008. Estimated work completion 6/15/2008.
- Ping Yuen North, Exterior Paint, Bird Proofing and LBP in Place Management, Estimated Cost: $600,000
- Westbrook paint stabilization, bird proofing and miscellaneous improvements, Estimated cost: $849,000
- Potrero Annex sewer, site & erosion stabilization and ponding repairs, Estimated cost: $474,000. Estimated work completion 6/2/2008.
- Hunters Point A West Upper and Lower lead paint encapsulation, 24 bay window upper dry-rot repairs, Estimated cost: $200,000
- Ping Yuen New Exterior Glass Enclosed Elevator, Estimated cost: $430,000
- Holly Courts Courtyard Repaving/Fencing/Handrails – Phase 1, Estimated cost: To be determined. The bid period will be from 04/23/2008 to 5/23/2008. Commission approval by 6/12/2008.

MORRIS, DAVIS & CHAN - 2008 SCHOLARSHIP FUND
CRITERIAS
- Applicable to San Francisco public housing residents on the lease
- 5 (five) scholarships valued at $500.00 will be awarded to 5 San Francisco public housing residents on the lease
- Required to participate in all activities of the Mayor's Graduation for Public Housing Residents event on June 26, 2008 at City Hall
- Must be planning to enter college in Fall 2008 as a freshman (College must have accreditation from the State of California for Higher Learning) with a minimum of 12 units in courses
- Must provide proof of College enrollment as full-time student (12 units) when enrolled
- Required to provide 1st semester or 1st quarter course grades
- Cumulative GPA 2.5 (must provide proof)
- Submit a 500 word (minimum words required) "Typed" "Double-Spaced" essay response to this question—"What is the value of a good education?"
- Deadline – Essay and proof of GPA must be postmarked no later than June 1, 2008 (no hand deliveries or faxed responses, and those postmarked after June 1, 2008 will not be considered).

SUMMER OF UNITY AND CELEBRATION
2008: Empowering and Engaging Youth and Residents in Public Housing
The Department of Children, Youth, and Their Families (DCYF) will co-sponsor these events with the A. Philip Randolph Institute and the San Francisco Housing Authority. Summer of Unity is a series of events aimed at connecting youth and families to resources by bringing these resources literally to their front doorstep. Each event will be made up of a 3 on 3 basketball tournament, a resource fair, cultural and youth performances, fun activities, and a Youth Warrior Ceremony to highlight the leadership and resilience of youth in public housing. Over 50 young people, who live in public housing, ages 12-22, will be honored as Youth Warriors in their community. Each youth will be provided with a Certificate of Honor fro the City of San Francisco. These extraordinary young people will be nominated by their community for overcoming obstacles and making positive changes in their communities.
