SUMMER OF UNITY AND CELEBRATION 2008:
Empowering and Engaging Youth and Residents in Public Housing

The Department of Children, Youth, and Their Families (DCYF) will co-sponsor these events with the A. Philip Randolph Institute and the San Francisco Housing Authority. Each event will be made up of a 3 on 3 basketball tournament, a resource fair, cultural and youth performances, fun activities, and a Youth Warrior Ceremony to highlight the leadership and resilience of youth in public housing. Over 50 young people, who live in public housing, ages 12-22, will be honored as Youth Warriors in their community. Each youth will be provided with a Certificate of Honor fro the City of San Francisco. These extraordinary young people will be nominated by their community for overcoming obstacles and making positive changes in their communities.

Economic Opportunity Council - Computer Lab-Business Center:
Serving the Potrero Hill Community.

The Computer Lab is available for public use. Computers have internet access, applications for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, Power Point, and graphics. Computer training is available and users have the opportunity to look and apply for jobs. There is also a black-and-white laser printer available for use. The lab also provides users the opportunity to look and apply for jobs.

The Hunters View Tenants Association continues sponsoring monthly resident meetings with the Hunters View Community Partners, the revitalization team currently working with the community to redevelop Hunters View. The monthly meetings are now held the last Tuesday of the month – the next meeting will be on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at 5:30 pm at the tenants association office located at 227-229 West Point Road. The meetings offer childcare and dinner for those who attend. The meetings are getting more popular, so make sure you get your chair and contribute to the rebuilding of your homes! The next meeting's agenda will include discussions on the final relocation plan and supportive services. Potrero Hill Resident Management Corporation presents
Team Up to CLEAN UP for Potrero Hill Terrace and Annex.

It's summer time and there's no better time to Team-Up to Clean-Up Potrero community housing! The City and County of San Francisco is supporting the Potrero Resident Management Corporation in their efforts to team-up with their neighbors to create a healthy environment and safe community. We need YOU to participate on Saturday, August 2, 2008 from 9 am to 12 noon, as we work together on 4 community improvement projects. Activities include: (1) Cleaning & Greening Annex: Plant pruning, creating open spaces for activities, increasing public safety; (2) Green Planting & Beautification: Plant native species, beautify the community, learn gardening skills; (3) Graffiti Removal: Increase cleanliness, respect the community, reclaim safe housing; (4) Assist in Cleaning Vacant Housing: Clean out old housing for new neighbors & improve the health of the community. Everyone who volunteers will receive a FREE T-Shirt and be served a delicious BBQ lunch. During the week leading up to the cleanup, you may discard any unwanted furniture or bulky items in FREE DUMPSTERS that Norcal will be providing. Bayview Hope Truck Driving Academy

Bayview Hope Truck Driving Academy will be holding its next informational orientation on Monday, July 14, 2008 from 3-5 pm at the True Hope Church, located at 950 Gilman Avenue. Training through Bayview Hope Truck Driving Academy is absolutely free and they will help you find a job when you graduate. The average starting wage is $15 per hour. DCYF will serve FREE healthy, hot meals

DCYF will serve FREE healthy, hot meals to all San Francisco children and youth at qualified sites every week day this summer. Every Monday through Friday from June 23 through August 15, 2008, everyone ages 18 and younger can enjoy a healthy, hot lunch for FREE at designated locations throughout San Francisco. Meals are served on a first-come-first serve basis. Children and youth must arrive at the location during specific serving times. Not all sites are open all summer. Serving times vary by location.
